It is Hard to Let Go.
An Insight from In the Room
“I am back on the tools and am loving it. But I know I should be working on the business not in it.”
One of the goals of a business operator is to become obsolete so that they can work on their business rather than in it.
We have heard that a million times.
The problem is that, because we care, we take on work that others could do, while the important work that only we can do gets shifted to the “later” pile.
And delegation is hard. Which means putting a system in place is crucial.
A Gallup study showed that CEOs that delegate more, generate 33% more revenue and their companies grow faster. Only 1 in 4 business owners delegate well, which gives them (and you) a competitive advantage if it is made a habit.
Delegation runs on two rules.
RULE 1: THE 70% RULE
If someone on your team can do something 70% as well as you, it should be delegated.
RULE 2: HAND OVER RESPONSIBILITY, NOT TASKS
Tasks are easy to hand over but turn your day into task allocation.
A responsibility handed over gets it out of your head and empowers your people.
When you delegate responsibilities, you leverage yourself, which is how you level up.
